Did you know that today is the United Nations International Day for Charity? I was intrigued by this and so looked up what it is all about.
As it says on the website, ‘charity contributes to the promotion of dialogue, solidarity and mutual understanding among people.’
I absolutely agree!
Many people might be offended – as they don’t want to be seen as a ‘charity case.’ Or we might think that only people in poverty deserve to receive charity.
However, the United Nations has created this day for everyone…as they say:
‘On this International Day of Charity, the United Nations invites all Member States and all international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to commemorate the Day in an appropriate manner, by encouraging charity, including through education and public awareness-raising activities.’
So The UN state that ICD is for everyone – they highlight the importance of giving. Many of you are out there giving of your time, energy and heart – as well as perhaps your money. So please share how you are contributing to make this world a better place?
